It’s not that I’m bad at beginning things, I do it all the time. It’s just that I’m never totally happy with how things start. Whether a songwriting or recording session usually the first attempt isn’t up to even my lax imperfectionist standards. I often refer to this initial idea as “the first pancake” because I always tend to mess those up as well. This fear of disappointment is why it’s taken me so long to publish my first post on this platform. I’ve had this account for a few months but never knew where to start. So, fuck it, let’s start.
I want this to be a place where I can share the things that I have in the hopper. I write songs, I write stories, I go on tours, I put out records and books and I’d like to keep you informed of all of these goings on. I’m going to start posting every other weekend but if there is a desire for more of my ramblings then maybe we can get together like this more often. I just don’t want to overwhelm you from the jump. If you have any questions you can send them to me here and I can answer them in a future post. If you have any ideas for other things to be included in this newsletter of sorts please feel free to put those in the proverbial suggestion box as well.
Well, it’s consumerism season and like most small businesses I have my very own online store. Here you can get signed copies of my book and some good lookin’ New Ams merch as well. It’s also where I am now housing my custom song shop which is currently accepting orders to be delivered by the 24th. If you don’t know, this is where you can commission myself to write and record your very own original song. It makes a great gift that almost guarantees your significant other will cry … in a good way. you can also get a gift card for a song if you have no fucking idea what to write about.
In other news, The New Amsterdams first album “Never You Mind” turns 25 next year! I know we are in the golden age of album anniversaries but this one feels different because it’s first time that a “side project” has hit a milestone like this, at least for any of my records. So, to celebrate this occasion I’ve re-recorded the album and will be releasing it in the new year on twelve inch vinyl discs. I do wonder if this practice or re-recording will come to be know as a “Taylor’s Version” of an album since that seems to be the easiest way to explain it to people. Regardless the vinyl is gonna be limited edition and will be available for pre-sale as soon as I get the records back from the pressing plant. They say 7-8 weeks but who knows.
I’d like to play some more living room shows to promote this record. I think that’s gonna be the best way to perform it and honestly I really like doing shows like that. If you’re interested in hosting you can hit me up at pryorhousetour@gmail.com. Looking for spaces that hold 30-50 people specifically in Texas and the Mid Atlantic region of the US. Gotta make these shows fit in between band tours so there isn’t a ton of time but they are really fun for me and I hope that we can make this work.
That’s it for now. Talk soon. Be well.
