Today is the day. As I write this there are sixteen hours left in the Kickstarter campaign for my new album “The Salton Sea”. Thankfully, we hit the goal late in the day on Friday and the record will be funded and birthed into the world this November. I am filled with both gratitude and relief both that this was successful and that it’s almost over. This last month has been more of an emotional roller coaster than I had expected but a positive experience overall. I can’t thank everyone who has pledged and continues to pledge enough.
We’re very close to hitting our first “flex goal” which is a term that I’ve never really used before. If the campaign hits that goal I’ll be performing the album in its entirety on a live stream tomorrow night (Monday the 11th). If you’d like to help support the campaign or just order a copy of the album (lots of limited edition vinyl in there) I would be very grateful. You can do that here.
There was a period during this process where I wasn’t sure that it was going to work out. I guess that’s standard with these sorts of things that there is a burst of activity and a really quiet period in the middle. Ideally, there is another rush at the end and I’m grateful that there was. It’s not unlike a gig now that I think about it. There’s a certain number of people that walk up to the merch table at the beginning of the show, nobody during the concert itself and then a massive rush at the end (hopefully). I guess I should have seen that coming but honestly didn’t think about it until this moment. That seems obvious in hindsight but I guess most things do.
I think I’m gonna do a full autopsy of this experience in a future post. It’s been exhilarating and stressful and creatively challenging and exhausting and ultimately a positive experience. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to everyone who has pledged, come to the AMA live streams, offered support and advice. You all made me feel that something I had created was worthwhile and that means the world to me. Thank you.
The Kickstarter campaign ends tonight at midnight so if you’d like to support it please do. I appreciate it more than you know.
