It’s the last week to support the Kickstarter for my new album “The Salton Sea”. If you’ve been even casually browsing these posts then you’ll already know how personal this record is to me, maybe the most personal record I’ve ever made. You can go back and read about it greater detail but the songs are about the last six months of darkness in my life before I went into the hospital and got my shit together. Or, started attempting to get my shit together. I decided to launch a Kickstarter because it’s important to me to relase this album independently. You could say it’s part of my recovery, a way of taking my life back and depending on myself. But, like sobriety itself, I can’t do it alone. I need help.
If you haven’t pledged to the campaign or pre-ordered any of the various versions of the album I hope that you’ll consider doing so now. As I write this we seem to have hit a period that in BBQ is called “The Stall”. If you’re not famililar that’s when you’re smoking a large piece of meat like a brisket and it hits a kind of road block. You’ll be maintaining that low and slow smoke point for eight or twleve or twenty four hours and then the internal temperature of the meat will just stop rising. I believe it has someting to do with evaporation but anyone will tell you that BBQ is more like sorcery than science so who knows why this really happens. The solution is just to wait it out or apply something called the “Texas Crutch” which is a story for another time. Regardless, this campain seems to have hit a similar “stall” in the fundraising and could use your help.
If you’re able to pledge to the Kickstarter I would really appreciate it. If you can spread the word to people who might enjoy these songs and support it I would appreciate it. If you’d like to throw your proverbial nickle in the bucket of an independent artist just because you want to support the arts in general I would appreciate it. In the meantime I hope you’ll enjoy this clip of a song from the record that’s called “Doubt”. It’s the last track on the album and might be my favorite. The song is about how doubt is part of the process and that everyone goes through it and ultimately that’s alright. I think the universe might be testing that theory for me right now but I’m trying to lean into that.
Thank you for reading this and supporting what I do. It means the world to me.
