The Salton Sea is an accidental wonder in the California desert. It was once considered The American Riviera and was a popular destination in 1950s and 60s. But, the saltwater became toxic and the once vibrant vacation spot is now all but abandoned. This is an oversimplification but feel free to do your own research on the place, there’s lots of documentaries on it. It’s fascinating.
